Chivalry... lost forever?

I was in Coffee Bean this afternoon (study leave as usual), and there was this couple standing in the queue in front of me. They were ordering something... or rather, the LADY was ordering. And the man with her was just standing behind her, checking that what he wanted was ordered correctly. WHAT IS THAT?? Arrrghh...

Similarly, as soon as I was seated and enjoying my cappuccino, a young couple in their 20's walked in... but it was the very attractive girl that walked towards the counter, while the guy walked outside to get a seat. Then her guy friend popped his pretty little head in, and told the girl to order him the ice-blended mocha... WHAT IS THAT??

Even at work, whenever we got into an elevator, whenever the elevator door opens, it's usually the GIRL who holds the door open. WHAT IS THAT??

When did we girls start doing the bidding for our male counterparts? Where did the days of gentlemanly behaviour go? What happened to opening doors and laying down your coats so that our pretty shoes don't get wet?

Ok ok... Maybe we no longer require those levels of chivalry. I mean, what kind of times we are living in right now, right? And with feminist fighting for equality and all, we should no longer expect such 'special treatment'.

But is chivalry really dead? Should men really forget about doing these little things for us just because we want equality? Or is it us? We actually volunteer to take over these tasks. We offer to pay... we offer to drive ourselves... we willingly take it upon ourselves to do all these things ourselves. Is it to make a point to show that we can be independent? Maybe we did bring it upon ourselves.
