This is part of the speech given by Steve Jobs (CEO of Apple) to Stamford students at their graduation:

You've got to find what you love.
If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?

Income Tax filing

That time of the year again... where you have to fill in a form and let the LHDN know how much you've earned, how much tax the company has already remitted for you, and how much more you still owe them.

The form seemed simple enough. There's even a booklet to explain what goes where. So, as usual, I left it till last minute to do. And even though my circumstance isn't that complicated (since I have no shares, dividends or other income to declare), it should be straight-forward.

But as you start filling in the form, you start to encounter problems. My main issue was: Where do you put your variable bonus?? My company declares variable bonus for the previous year in March of the current year. So technically, the variable bonus should've been declared last year. So should we include it in this year's tax return? What about the portion of tax that was deducted from your variable bonus?

Well, after much discussion with my dad, we decided that it should go into Section G (for prior year's income that have not been declared). But there's no section in the tax form that requires you to recalculate the tax amount payable on this variable bonus or to determine if the amount remitted by the company for tax was even sufficient! Which works out well for us, since the amount remitted is almost certainly less than actual tax payable, and now the onus is back on the LHDN to recalculate our prior year tax returns and to come back to us on how much we still owe them! What a mess!

Only 2 more days for people to rush to complete their tax forms.
I was at Chilli's today for dinner, and actually saw 3 guys sitting at the dining table, helping each other out with their tax forms. Haha... It was quite funny to see. :P At least I got mine done already... better than last year when I actually went to the LHDN office at Jalan Duta on the very last day to hand it in personally!

Trip to Singapore

Last weekend, I went over to S'pore to take advantage of the long weekend holiday. I always have such a good time in Singapore, so I was really looking forward to the trip. :)

I took the Aeroline bus down to Singapore on Saturday morning. It was so comfortable! It costs RM160 (2-way) and they even serve you food and movie on the bus. :)

Then in S'pore, I did a hell lot of shopping and on Saturday night I went to Clarke Quay with friend. It was beautiful. The ambience was great.

There's this club at Clarke Quay called the "1 Night Stand". Haha... it's for stand up comedy and it looks pretty cool. Will have to check out the party scene there with a group of friends some time soon. :)

Back from hiatus...

Yes yes... I'm back. So many people have told me to update my blog. Been out of the blogging scene for about a month now. I have my reasons! To make it short and simple: 1) Workload (long hours); 2) Computer hit by virus so had to reinstall O/S (another story I will have to elaborate on); 3) Laziness? :P

Status for now: Just came back from a long weekend in Singapore. It was absolute bliss! Spent the day shopping, walking about town... taking the MRT whenever and wherever I want to go. So convenient! And there are so many things to buy! There was a lingerie fair at Takashimaya (my usual hangout spot), and boy, did I just go credit-card swiping-crazy there... Haha... I think I looked like I had never bought a single lingerie in my life?! Haha.... And I bought a nice skirt for only SGD8! What a bargain!! :P

Went to watch the Rugby Sevens game there, to watch NZ play and kick some butt. But they were disappointing, to say the least. They didn't even win any of the games in Day 2. They lost to Samoa!! Sigh... We got on the wrong bus on the way back from Kallang Stadium, but that turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The bus took us to Marine Parade, which was where I used to hang out a lot during my secondary school days. So we ended up having dinner there and the bus took us the same route I used to take to school. We saw the TKGS old and new building... such memories. Sigh...

Everytime I go to S'pore, I feel like that's where I should be. I like the city so much... I feel so at home there. Maybe I should just move there? Hmm... This is really something to think about. But then, I say that all the time but never done anything about it. :P
